I get tons of emails a day on which are the best plans to build a chicken coop. It’s hard for me to respond to each and every email, so I just made a post on the exact chicken coop design book that I used to build my chicken coop. Before I go into the details of the book, you can check it out here:

When I bought the ebook it was about 30 bucks and it was worth every penny. Let me explain why. A few years ago, I thought it would be fun and exciting to own some chickens to have fresh eggs and be able to teach my son how to raise feed chickens. I had no knowledge in building chicken coops, so I drafted up my own designs, bought some supplies at the hardware store, and ended wasting a lot of time or buying stuff I didn’t need. In short, I went through about 3 different designs and wasted a good amount of money.

I didn’t think about how hard it could be. I first thought it was just a square box to house chickens, right? Wrong, there are so many different elements that I missed such as having proper ventilation, enough lighting, and even positioning the chicken coop at the right spot in my backyard. Plain and simple, I was in over my head about the whole project and wanted to give up. I even thought about buying those pre-built chicken coops, until I looked at the price and knew that it was way too expensive.

I had to swallow my pride and ask a good friend of mine who lived a bit up north. My friend Steve has been raising chicken coops for over 14 years and definitely had the experience with how to build a chicken coop. I can’t believe that he recommended me an ebook called Building a Chicken Coop.

The manual did cost me about 30 bucks, but here is why it was worth every penny to me. I must have wasted about $300 on trying to build a chicken coop on my own without instructions. Boy did I wish I had this manual first. If you don’t believe me, give it a try and contact me to let me know!

I was blown out of the water. I couldn’t believe that the chicken coop book actually had so many different designs for different kinds of backyards, budgets, and even had comprehensive instructions. All you really needed to have in terms of tools is a hammer, an electric drill, and also a saw. I was glad about that part because I didn’t have a woodworking setup in my garage. I’m not easily impressed, so when I went through this book I was quite surprised.

There was one qualm I didn’t like about the build a chicken coop book though. It contained some extra information that wasn’t helpful for me at the time of building the coop. For example, the author tells you how to take care of the chickens and make sure they don’t get sick, and also goes into detail on what kinds of food to feed the chicken. I guess that this may be helpful for some people, but I really just wanted the chicken coop built.

Other than that, the build a chicken coop book is amazing. I highly recommend that you check it out!
